Squamish Days on CityTV

Part of my Executive Director role at the DSBIA is to work on partnerships with other organizations within the Squamish community. Squamish Days is a really neat event to promote because it is a fun filled family event happening during BC Day long weekend.  Hopefully with all the promotion that we have been working on, Squamish will have more day trippers coming in from the Lower Mainland to explore this great town.

Squamish Days is a weekend full of excitement, fun and action aimed to make every member of the family smile. There are music events, children's activities, a parade, wacky bed races, a 10 km run, pancake breakfast and two world class Loggers Sports Shows with competitors from all around the world. This event showcases not only Squamish’s rich heritage, but also it's strong and vibrant community spirit.

A few weeks back Paul spoke with Tony Wanless about what it’s like starting up a new family history business in this kind of economic climate.  Tony is an independent consultant who writes for the National Post and he has a keen eye for the issue’s of the day.  Talking with him actually brought Paul to focus on some things he has been doing to get him through the tough times.   

The path that Tony mentions in his piece is a rocky one, but with some sturdy boots and a shoulder to lean on now and again, it is navigable to anyone who believes in their vision enough.

Betsey Johnson a Lovely Customer Service Experience

Betsey Johnson is an amazing NYC based fashion designer since the 1960’s. She is a super neat woman who is most creative in her designs. Read more about her here. Anyhow, this is more about my experience purchasing a dress, humph, my wedding dress from her store.

First I have to say, my whole customer experience was amazing. The store is super cute, colourful, clean and organized. The staff were lovely and fun. It was like I was hanging out with good friends and playing dress-up at the same time! But the party soon came to an end once I found ‘the one’..

I came home and sent her a ‘tweet’, a tweet is a message on Twitter, Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read each others' updates.

My tweed was ‘just bought my wedding dress at your store, had such a great time!’ so about a few hours later I got a message back something along the lines of ‘wow, please send us a picture of your special day!’

Now the reason why I think most businesses should have a Twitter account is exactly this, a personalized experience with your customer. For me this was icing on the cake in which I can spread the word on how great it felt to be acknowledged.

Here are some tips when you manage your business Twitter site:

1. Treat your Twitter page like any other professional website. Always have tips about your industry and share your knowledge.
3. Limited space is no excuse for messy spelling and grammatical errors.
2. Make sure to share your blogs, photos, and media clippings. This creates more opportunity for your company or blog to come up in peoples searches.
